Boxing Shoe Sizing Guide: How to Get the Right Fit for Nike, Mizuno and Winning
Getting the size right is the single most important part of buying boxing shoes. A loose shoe lets your foot slide when you pivot, and a short one cramps your toes by the third round. The catch is that every brand fits differently, so your usual trainer size isn't always the right answer.
Why boxing shoe sizing is different
Boxing shoes are built to fit snugly. That close fit is what stops your foot moving inside the shoe as you turn on the ball of your foot. Snug is good — but snug is not the same as short. You still need room for your toes.
How to measure your foot
- Stand on a sheet of paper with your heel against a wall, wearing the socks you train in.
- Mark the tip of your longest toe.
- Measure from the wall to the mark in centimetres.
- Measure both feet and use the longer one.
Measure at the end of the day, when your feet are slightly larger.
Nike boxing shoe sizing
Nike's boxing and combat range is built on a narrower last than its everyday trainers and runs about half a size short. Order half a size up from your normal shoe size, and a full size up if your feet are wide or you wear thick training socks. This applies across the HyperKO and Machomai lines.
Mizuno boxing shoe sizing
Mizuno sizes by foot length in centimetres and uses a 2E width, which is standard to slightly roomy for a boxing shoe. If you're between sizes, go by your measured foot length in cm rather than your usual shoe size. Every Mizuno Finisher in our store shows US and UK equivalents on each size option.
Winning boxing shoe sizing
Winning boxing shoes come in 25.0cm to 29.0cm in half-centimetre steps — US 7 to 11 and UK 6 to 10. They run true to size for a regular foot; if your foot is wide, go half a size up. Every Winning shoe in our store shows the cm, US and UK size on each option.
Brand sizing at a glance
| Brand | Advice |
|---|---|
| Nike | Half a size up; full size up for wide feet |
| Mizuno | Size by foot length in cm; 2E width |
| Winning | True to size (25.0–29.0cm); half a size up for wide feet |
How a boxing shoe should feel
- Your heel shouldn't lift when you rise onto the ball of your foot.
- Your foot shouldn't slide forward when you pivot.
- Your toes should be close to the front but not pressed against it.
- The shoe should feel firm around the midfoot once laced.
